A moissanite diamond is made from silicon carbide, a naturally occurring mineral. It sparkles well because of its high refractive index and dispersion, which are properties that cause light to bend and break into spectral colors, giving it that brilliant sparkle similar to a diamond.
Moissanite is a hard stone, ranking 9.9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, just below natural diamond which ranks as a 10.
This makes Moissanite a durable and suitable alternative to diamond for everyday wear.
